In civilizations and societies we are often told what is good and what is bad. We are indoctrinated into a religion, nationalism even political correctness. On this issue of what is free will or free choice one has to ask them selves how much is real and how much is brain washing. This topic came up recently regarding the issues between Iran and the US and the push towards war and one self-proclaimed peaceful philosopher of sorts stated;
And about your freedom of choice, I can tell you youre not free and it is not just you everyone in any part of world, since our birth we get told what is good and what is bad through commercial and our parent and family and the choice we making really has been dictated to us but we think it is us that making those choices.
I would agree with you only I am a perfect example that, such things are not true. You do have choice and you can if you wish choose to believe what you want. You can surrender you belief system to a religion , you can surrender your mind to the TV Set, you can believe every bit of information you learn in school and are told. Or you can step back and observe things and make your own decision from outside Platos Cave, that too is a choice. So you are not one to surrender your mind to the TV, fanaticism, religion, education, then you can be of free mind. That too I believe is a choice. A choice to believe or not to trust anything other than what you feel, observe and sense.
You are not a peaceful person if you support a man, President of Iran, who wishes to reshape the world and force his will over the rest of humanity by way of force, using international terrorism to kill innocent people. So if you do support him, then you do not support peace and thus you could be considered a peaceful hypocrite, but not a true peaceful person. And to the last point and coming full circle, it is not right for you to say people are not free from thought, except yourself and then accept the baloney put out by the fundamentalist President of Iran.
